Africa’s premier real estate gathering, the 2024 Africa Property Investment summit, will be hosted in the Mother City for the first time in September.
Exploring the key aspects of real estate success in Africa is one of the main goals of the 15th edition of the Africa Property Investment (API) summit, which will make its debut in the Cape Town CBD on 19 and 20 September.
Six hundred delegates from 30 African and international countries are set to come together under one roof to explore effective strategies under the theme, “Impact” in a bid to shape an agenda for Africa’s real estate prospects.
“In an economic landscape being reshaped by ESG requirements, energy access and logistics, real estate developers and investors that focus on impact and real demand will be positioned for long-term success. At this year’s API Summit, we unlock how effective strategy and execution are key to success in this dynamic and shifting African landscape,” organisers say.
The Cape Town Central City Improvement District (CCID) is a summit partner, with CCID board chairperson Rob Kane taking part in a panel discussion on the beacon of built environment excellence that is the Western Cape and the lessons that can be shared for Africa.
Other speakers include Niyi Adeleye, head of African Real Estate at Standard Bank, Mikayla Benkenstein, CEO of Hodari Africa, Wayne Troughton, head of HTI Consulting and Daniel Trappler, senior director development of Radisson Hotel Group.
Other API summit topics to be discussed include:
• The Cape Town example – how public sector and private partnerships have enabled Cape Town to be constantly recognised as one of the world’s most popular cities?
• The informal opportunity in Africa – unpacking the best South African and African examples and how can they be exported?
• REITs in Africa – who are the players? Are we seeing growth in the market?
• Post-Covid investment and capital deployment – where is money being allocated and how is the growth of fresh and alternative sources creating new opportunities?
• Monetary policy, interest rates & currency volatility – what will be the cost of capital in 2025 and beyond?
• Geopolitics – how can Africa benefit from growing investments in ports, railways etc.
• The rise of healthcare, education, digital and light industrial logistics – how are focused and sustainably linked funds powering development of these assets?
The summit will feature the Africa Proptech Forum and API Hospitality Forums, promising networking opportunities, insights and experiences, including site tours of iconic Cape Town projects.
