The trenching that is taking place all over the CBD has now become a familiar sight, as numerous contractors lay fibre cables towards achieving a well-connected downtown. Another familiar sight are informal traders – important contributors to the downtown economy.
However, the CCID regularly receives complaints from the public about both of these – sometimes in terms of a sidewalk that has not been reinstated properly or regarding what appears to be an informal trader that has not set up in a valid bay.
While the CCID is able to address many challenges in the CBD, there are certain ones – like these - that the City of Cape Town takes care of directly. They issue the permits for any trenching activity that takes place as well as the erection of informal trading bays, and we would like to spread the word so that when these matters of concern arise, members of the public can direct their calls immediately to the correct quarters.
